Haiti.

This guy comes into our Anthropology of Development class today and gave a long speech regarding Haiti. He scared me though. Because he said, "One thing you CANNOT, MUST NOT do. Don't go to Haiti. You're going to die."
Seriously. And this was near the beginning, and I had no idea what the purpose of his speech was. Apparently, he wanted to tell us to not go there to hand out emergency supplies and such, and to just stay in school. Yeah, it took me a few minutes to get that, he was on off on tangents and it was quite vague. But scary.
Anyhow.
My wishes go to Haiti.

  1. I read in the french newspaper a few days ago that the situation in Haiti has gotten even worse. Like, a family cramped into a room 2m x 4m, their clothes in a pile within the small room..

  2. So sad.. and it had to hit a place ill-equipped to handle a natural disaster of this scale. In Geography class, my prof briefly touched upon earthquakes in regards to the effect on infrastructure, and showed us pictures of a collapsed building which would be in Haiti, because they were too poor to have 100% good infrastructure, putting in metal supports within the cement walls so the floors don't pancake over each other. Then contrast it to a building that has these metal constructs, the building is seriously damaged, but all the floors remain, thus better chance for the people to get out alive.
