But yeah. Twas a chem lab, and although my sample wasn't exactly pure (it turned purple in the FeCl3 phenol test dammit!) it was still cool!
That being said, it wasn't so cool when I got to be the second last student out of the lab- 30 minutes after the lab was supposed to be finished! I'm so thankful they didn't kick us out- it was quite surprising that they were so lenient and nice enough to wait for us... albeit impatiently. We were waiting for our sample to melt- we were to test the melting point of our made aspirin to see how pure it is (pure aspirin melts at 135 C). Mine was obviously less than that, but the machine was really slow (in a way it wasn't supposed to be)and it was frustrating!
I just realized I typed in the opening sentence "it wasn't so cool". Lol!! It wasn't, in both sense of the term XD

ReplyDeleteNo worries! if they're willing to give you extra time to finish the lab, then take it!! But I suppose, they can't very well yank the beaker away from you when time's up, not like snagging the test paper in exams. I wonder how the other person who was in the lab with you felt.
Studying science sounds so...cool :DI could use some aspirin: I just found my small capsule of aspirin SPILLED in my backpack today. dammn!

ReplyDeleteOh, the other person's sample started melting later than mine did! So, she felt damn frustrated! Haha.(But however bad that seems, in terms of results, it was probably better (higher melting point))
No, we were both half-bent in front of this melting point machine, watching our respective aspirin samples to show the first signs of melting (poking our heads up once in a while to look at the slow-ass thermometer- damn the machine!)

I've actually never had the recollection of taking aspirin before..
