So yesterday was Labour Day, so it was a "yay, no school today let's procrastinate and go find an asian market together lalallalalaa~" kind of day.
I went with 2 Korean buddies of mine, both who live in the Chocolate Factory Rez too. We got lost though.. apparently Sherbrooke street, the one that runs in front of the McGill Roddick Gates, is so long it doesn't even end on a map displaying a huge chunk of Montreal. Anyways, we finally found one, and the funny thing is, we didn't even go to the one we wanted to go to. We got off at the Vendome station, which is a few stations down Lionel-Groulx, on the orange Cote-Vertu line, and I saw a Korean/Japanese/Chinese market while we were walking to our destination, and I thought, "Why not check this one out?"
Turns out it was enough for us. We were mainly looking for "dok"=cylinder-shaped, white rice cakes/noodles. Like nian2 gao1. But it's specifically Korean. I've had those at home before, stir-fried with kimchi. Anyways, I bought for myself a pack of dok to put in the freezer for emergencies, and dried seaweed, corn starch (here, of all places....) and rice noodles.
We had to go to a Korean/asian market today, because it was Asian Potluck Night!! (no, not Labour Day XP).. So the potluck was SO awesome, basically there was no room to move around in my friend's apartment. I helped make the rice-cakes (which were a hit btw) and food kept arriving.. so many of the dishes were done quick before some late-arrivers came, but it was okay because new ppl would bring new dishes. However, the rice cakes were definitely the best, so tears for the late-arrivers. It was a lovely evening.
So, thoughts on China B****. I know that's the reason you read this, youu people! Lol. Because Montreal's Chinatown sucks, and is only a couple of streets (am I stretching the truth a little too much?).. 'Nyways, this girl refers to it as... *drumroll and suspense*
China Block. Hahahaha. So that's what I'm going to refer to it as. XD So apparently there're lots of asian markets there. It's should've been a "duh" to anyone, but I've never gone into one there, so I didn't really know. It was a bit sketchy. But to be fair, I didn't do any close examinations of all the stores on every street, and I honestly don't know it very well. I'll fix that asap!
